The ice storehouse

Meybod Ice store house with an antiquity which dates back to Ghajars (200 yeasrs ago) is one of very few remained ice storehouse in Yazd province. It is made of clay. The main parts of the building are as follow: the shading walls, the freezing pond, the ice Reservoir and the dome. The Eastern, Western and Southern walls in winter provide a cool shade in the northern part of the Ice storehouse. In the first night of winter, the water of the Qanat was conducted to the big and shallow pond. Doing the same thing other subsequent nights would form big pieces of ice which after being broken were transferred to the ice reservoir Under the Dome.
The ice House of Meybod, just like another ice houses, has lost its old function today. In the recent years it has been repaired and amended by the cultural heritage organization.
